IT IS Melbourne’s turn to take the world by storm as the L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) commences in a week’s time. Fashion, design, trends, business and creative endeavours will be celebrated in this city with style.
LMFF chief Graeme Lewsey says the festival is “for everyone to enjoy and engage with”.
Unlike Fashion Week, the upcoming fashion festival is not the exclusive domain of celebrities, designers, editors and entrepreneur, and is organised with fashion devotees and people off the street in mind.
Anyone can purchase a ticket to attend runway events.
Not only will the latest trends will be sent down the runway by Australia’s top designers, the festival will also be bringing in a range of cultural programs to keep you busy for the whole month of March, from movie screenings to incubator markets to sewing classes.
Central Pier will be transformed to a world-class runway for the L’Oréal Paris Runways hosted by major fashion magazines, presenting the most sought-after collections from more than 40 Australia’s favourite designers.

Some of the industry’s big players will of course have their own shows.
One to watch out for this year is burlesque diva Dita Von Teese, presenting her new lingerie collection in collaboration with Target, Lime Door brands and Diamondcut International. Alex Perry will be giving an exclusive preview of his upcoming Spring/Summer Ready to Wear Collection. Couture master Toni Maticevski will close the festival with his signature gowns in a red carpet one-off show.
It’s also exciting to see the rising young guns of the fashion industry, and every year, 12 top graduate designers from all over the country will show you what they’ve got at the National Graduate Showcase.
Other events worth checking out at LMFF are the Famous for Fashion Series and Fashion Industry Forums.
Th L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival runs from March 8-15. See the full program for a comprehensive run-down of all the events and activities taking place.
