Tigers vs Pheonix 2013 ASEAN Games

IT was all fun and games as the 2013 ASEAN Games Netball competiton wrapped up on Sunday September 29. Tim Morgan reports from the Albert Park Indoor Sports Centre.

For netball team Puff Puff We Don’t Puff, their results at the 2013 ASEAN Games didn’t make for pretty reading.

The team didn’t win a single game on Sunday during the round-robin tournament, scoring a combined 10 goals as opposed to their opponent’s 91.

It was always going to be tough for Puff Puff We Don’t Puff considering they were the only team that had formed just for the tournament and were made up of basketball players.

Event organiser and competitor Hui Xian Tan said Puff Puff We Don’t Puff epitomised what the ASEAN games are all about.

“It was more of a social, friendly game,” Hui Xian said.

That doesn’t mean the title for tournament champion wasn’t hotly contested.

It wasn’t until the final game of the day when Phoenix defeated ReignRovers 17-8 that the competition was finally decided.

Phoenix was undefeated throughout the tournament, defeating third placed Tigers 30-0 and Puff Puff We Don’t Puff 38-4.

The result meant Phoenix won Malaysia its 14th gold medal at the ASEAN Games.

While the day was a success, Hui Xian hopes that more teams will compete in future ASEAN Games.
